Capi Cabrera (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1983)

The creative processes related to abstraction and non-referential mechanisms allow Capi Cabrera to find a mode of expression, a language, a game where he can be attentive to the findings and a search for coherence between the pictorial and experiential processes. Concepts such as chance and serendipity, are embraced as a method of approaching the processes; an attempt to move away from the idea of the result as something foreseen and planned.

The trace as a gestural extension of the body; the void as an element generating transformations; the brightness and the light; make the process become one of the main values for the work as a consequence of that creative becoming.

Capi Cabrera balances between the contrast of industrial materials with surface finishes such as acetate, methacrylate or artificial rubber and the warmth of the gesture and its expression. The use of these materials and the possibility of transformation imply a detachment from the final image, from the work. A clear positioning prevails over the value, the importance of the processes and the research that become more important than the final result. It is impossible to understand painting without waiting.

In 2018 Capi Cabrera begins to work exclusively for Galeria Gema Llamazares. His work has been seen in the latest edition of CONTEXT Art Miami, or more recently in JustLX, Lisbon.
