Holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca, specialising in Design and Audiovisuals. He completed further studies in Italy through the Sócrates Scholarship (1998–1999) at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, and a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000–2001) at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma (Via Ripetta). Since the late 1990s, he has developed an artistic practice in which painting is his primary medium, while also working across sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, and video installation.
Throughout his career, Granell has held numerous solo exhibitions in Spain, France, Italy, and the Dominican Republic. Among the most relevant are El amor en tránsito (Galería Llamazares, Gijón, 2025), Los paisajes que me habitan (Galería Llamazares, Gijón, 2022), Love is Blue (Galería Gema Llamazares, Gijón, 2013), the installation at Galerie Nivet-Carzon (Paris, 2012), Werther at Teatro Campoamor (Oviedo, 2012), as well as exhibitions at Utopía Parkway (Madrid), Dora Diamanti Arte Contemporanea (Rome), Tinglado 1 (Tarragona), My Name is Lolita Art (Valencia), Galerie Nivet-Carzon (Paris), Sala El Brocense (Cáceres), Galería Fruela (Madrid), La Galería (Santo Domingo), and the Centro Asturiano de México, among others.
His work has received several awards, including the XLIII National Art Competition of Luarca – Cajastur Prize (2012) and the Painting Prize of the Junta General del Principado de Asturias (2009). He has also been awarded acquisition prizes and selected for numerous competitions, including the BMW Painting Prize, the Luarca National Art Competition, the La Carbonera Painting Biennial, the Casimiro Baragaña Prize, the HUCA Painting Prize, and the National Lithography Prize “Ciudad de Gijón”.
His work is included in important public and private collections, such as the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, the Government of the Principality of Asturias, the Pilar Citoler Collection, DKV Collection, Masaveu Collection, Cajastur–Liberbank, El Corte Inglés, the Provincial Council of Cáceres, the Oviedo Bar Association, Fundación Alvargonzález, UBE Corporation, Casa Consuelo, Reny Picot, the Nautilus Collection (Lanzarote), and the City Council of Cudillero, among many others in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Hong Kong, and other countries.
