Hugo O’ Donnell

Madrid, 1953

He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Oviedo, in the class of 1974-78. He held his first solo exhibition at the Manos Gallery in Mieres in 1982, followed by exhibitions at the Nicanor Piñole Gallery (1984), at the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias (1989), at the Hierro y Azul Gallery in Oviedo and Inguanzo in Madrid (1990), at the Caja de Asturias (1992) and at the Marta Llames Gallery (1995). He belonged to the Abra group with whom he exhibited at the School of Applied Arts in Oviedo in 1981, at the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias in 1982 and 1987, and at the West Broadway in New York (1984). He participated in the Biennials of Art City of Oviedo in 1984 and 1992. In 2002 he exhibited at the Vértice Gallery in Oviedo, his most personal works, less impastoed paintings that speak of space and light, which could also be seen at the Revillagigedo Palace in Gijón at the end of 2003.
