Menchu Lamas

Vigo, 1954

Menchu Lamas is one of the most outstanding artists in contemporary Spanish painting. She began her artistic career with the Colectivo da Imaxe, years later in 1980, she founded the Grupo Atlántica, a group formed by Galician artists such as Antón Patiño, Ánxel Huete or Guillerme Monroy, aimed at reactivating Galician art and placing it on the international scene. In 2010 the artist received the Galician Culture Award for the Plastic Arts.

Her work reproduces a universe of vibrant colours and symbolism, in which the artist, through the use of primary colours and simplicity of forms, fuses abstraction and figuration.

Her work is present, among others, in the Museo de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, M. A. C. B. A. Barcelona, C.G.A.C, Santiago de Compostela, I.V.A.M. Valencia, Fundación Juan March and in collections such as the Colección La Caixa de Arte Contemporáneo, Colección AFundación or Colección Abanca.
